ASSESSMENT
Journals
Crabbe is written in a journal format. You will do something similar. At the end of each set of chapter readings, there will be two key discussion questions. The answers to these questions will not be found in the novel, but will require you to read the corresponding chapter to answer the questions.
You will choose ONE question from your two options. You will write your response to this question. Throughout our study of the novel, you will respond to SEVEN topics. This will be included in your final portfolio.
To incorporate the use of modern technology, journals will be completed online. You may do this in a variety of ways. You may use a blog (Wordpress, Blogger, Tumblr, etc.), or you may do them in a podcast format.
Journal entries will be 200 words each if typed, and if you do a podcast, each entry will be 3-5 minutes in length.

Final Assignment
You will complete a final assignment once we finish reading the novel. It will consist of a number of activities that will assess your comprehension and understanding of the novel.
Class Activities
There will be a series of class activities that you will complete as we read the novel. These activities will be completed in class. The only reason you will need to do these activities for homework will be because you missed a class. All these activities will be included in your portfolio. Some will be marked before you submit your portfolio, and some will be marked once you submit your portfolio.
Portfolio
One of the most important things that you will submit at the end of this unit is a portfolio. The portfolio will consist of everything from quizzes, class activities, journals, and final assignments. Some of the things you include will already have been marked, and some will be marked. The items that have already been marked will be worth less than those items waiting to be marked. For example, if we do an activity in class, that hasn't been marked before, it will be worth more than your journals. This is because your journals will be graded on its own. However, the journals will be included in your completion portion part of your portfolio grade. While individual grades will not change, you are welcome to improve or correct previously marked assessments in order to help your final portfolio grade.
In order to save paper, assignments will be scanned and handed back to you. You will compile your portfolio electronically, and submit it.
